Oneness of God (Tawhid)

The heart of Islam: one Creator, one purpose, one path back to Him

Deep down, many feel there is only one true Creator behind everything. Islam gives this truth a clear form: Tawhid, the absolute oneness of God.

Why Oneness Changes Everything

Who deserves my ultimate love, trust, and worship?

If there are many competing "gods", your heart is pulled in many directions. Islam invites you to something cleaner and more beautiful: one God over everything — no partners, no rivals, no confusion.

The Qur'an says:

"Your God is only One God. There is no god [worthy of worship] except Him — the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful."

The Bible carries the same call in the famous Shema:

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one."

Jesus repeats this in the Gospel:

"The most important [commandment] is: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one."

What Muslims Mean by "Tawhid" ?

Tawhid means affirming God's oneness in every way. Classical scholars break it into three dimensions:

01

Oneness in Lordship

God alone created, sustains, and controls the universe

02

Oneness in Worship

Only He deserves prayers, ultimate love, fear, and trust

03

Oneness in Names and Attributes

His qualities (like perfect mercy, perfect knowledge) are unique and unlimited

Everything you rely on, your heartbeat, the sun, your next breath — is held by the same One.

"Say, He is Allah, One" — Al-Ikhlas 112:1 declares the absolute oneness of God—unique, indivisible, and without equal. It affirms that all creation comes from a single source, establishing the foundation of Tawhid in the clearest and most powerful words.

QURAN

" Say, He is Allah, One."

" قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ "

— Al-Ikhlas 112:1
Beyond Comparison

God is beyond limitations, yet close to you.

This refutes the idea of God having a son or sharing His nature. God is not born, does not give birth, and has no equal. This understanding frees the believer from idolizing any created being — whether a person, a statue, or even an idea.

He is unique in every way — in His knowledge, His power, His mercy. Nothing in creation resembles Him.

لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ ١١

"There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing."

— Ash-Shura 42:11

Tawhid and the Message of the Bible

The Bible itself reflects God's oneness, and early Christians held a monotheistic belief before later developments like the Trinity. Jesus affirmed this in the Shema. In Islam, Tawhid is the original message of all prophets—restoring pure monotheism and belief in one God without partners.

NEW TESTAMENT

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

Deuteronomy 6:4
Beyond Comparison

No Intermediaries. You Can Call on Him Yourself.

No ordained priesthood

Every Muslim has direct access to God. No human intermediary is needed for your prayers to be heard.

Ask forgiveness directly

Made a mistake? Turn to God directly. He promises to forgive all sins for those who sincerely repent.

God responds to every call

"When My servants ask about Me — I am near. I respond to the caller when he calls." — Quran 2:186

God is near and answers those who call on Him.

You don't need a special building or a special person. Wherever you are — in your room, on a bus, in the middle of the night — God hears you. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Your Lord descends every last third of the night and says: 'Who is calling upon Me that I may answer? Who is asking of Me that I may give? Who is seeking My forgiveness that I may forgive?'" This is what Tawhid gives you — a personal, unmediated relationship with the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
